Washing machines fail in ways that get expensive if you wait. A slow leak behind the drum soaks into subfloor for weeks before anyone notices, and a worn bearing that could have been a $200 repair becomes a scrapped machine.

What actually fails

Drain pump. The single most common washer failure. A sock, coin or hairpin reaches the pump impeller and jams it. Clearing the obstruction or replacing the pump restores drainage the same visit.

Door lock and lid switch. Modern machines refuse to spin unless the door lock confirms it is latched. A worn latch or failed switch reads as a broken machine when the mechanism itself is fine.

Shock absorbers and suspension. Banging and walking on the spin cycle means the drum is no longer damped. Replacing worn dampers is straightforward and prevents the bearing damage that follows if you ignore it.

Drum bearings. A rumble that grows louder every week is bearing wear. This is the one repair where age matters: on a machine past ten years old we will tell you plainly whether it is worth doing.

Control board and water valve. Cycles that stop partway, fail to advance, or never fill point at the inlet valve or main control. Both are replaceable in a single visit.
