What actually fails
Blocked vent run. The most common and most dangerous fault. Lint packs the duct, hot air cannot escape, the machine overheats and trips its thermal fuse. Clearing the run restores drying time and removes a genuine fire risk.
Thermal fuse. A one-time safety device that blows when the dryer overheats, usually because of a restricted vent. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent means it will blow again.
Heating element (electric). An open element means the drum turns and the air stays cold. Replacement is a routine repair, usually under an hour.
Igniter and flame sensor (gas). On gas machines, a weak igniter or failed flame sensor produces the same no-heat symptom. Both are inexpensive, fast replacements.
Belt, idler pulley and drum rollers. Squealing, thumping or a drum that will not turn comes from the drive train. Belts and rollers are wear items and are replaced as a set.
